Planning session

What is it?

A planning session is, essentially, a simulation of what will happen during your radiotherapy treatment.

During the planning session:

  • The radiology team takes several measurements to accurately determine where the radiation should be directed, as well as the angles and dosage of the radiation beam(s);
  • With a permanent pen, or using tiny tattooed dots, the technician will mark the body area to be bombarded by radiation;

In the following sessions, beams of normal light will still be used to position the machine correctly, so the radiations beams target precisely and solely the tumor.

Despite not being a systemic treatment, radiation therapy has side effects  that you should learn about.
