Definition of risk factor

A risk factor is any factor that increases the risk of a disease.

Different cancers have different risk factors.

However, they are indicators not definitive factors:

  • A risk factor, or even many, does not guarantee that a man will develop breast cancer;
  • Even if the disease develops, there is no way to be sure that the cause was having been exposed to a risk factor.

The causes of breast cancer in men are still not fully understood, but risk factors are known to increase its chances.

Often they are linked with changes in the levels of sexual hormones in the organism.
