Non-eligible women

What if a woman is not eligible for the cancer genetic clinic?

A woman with only a 1st degree relative with breast cancer, especially if diagnosed after the age of 50, does NOT have a worrying risk of disease.

For this reason it would not be referred to the cancer genetic clinic, except in the case of additional worrying information (like when the relative with breast cancer is a man).

Because disease risk is measured using your familial history, do not forget to keep your doctor updated of any new changes in it.

Your doctor should help you with any doubts, and assure that you are appropriately screened for this or other (sporadic) cancers.
